It seems unlikely, but check the Message Centre Number.
1. Open the messages app.
2. Tap settings.
3. Tap "Text Messages (SMS)"
4. Check to see you have a number. (There are many regional numbers, but most National AT&T SIMs are provisioned with the default, +13123149810) (Don't forget the '+' sign.)
5. If you made any changes, restart your device.
