Why would I give my pass code to an individual at Att?

I called this morning to roll my data plan from 10 gb to 5gb, because I am not working on the road for several months so I would like save $50 a month on something I am not using at the moment.  When changing data plans I have always found it best to do it over the phone and not the Internet, because of older plans are changed, usually costing the same or more for less service.   I was first required to set up a passcode, supposedly for security, which I understand it might help prevent fraud.  Unfortunately, the operator and the supervisor, both wanted me to give it to them verbally.  One thing I do not do is give my pass codes verbally to anyone.  Neither your Supervisor or your operator saw any problem with customers giving personal pass codes to an unknown individual verbally.  Unfortunately, it appears I will not be able to change my rate plan without going through a process I do not trust.  I am guessing my next move, will be to wait and see if management can review a bad procedure and get back to me.  If I do not hear from this process I guess I can call Verizon or T-Mobile see if I need to give them a verbal pass code.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

John
