Welcome to the AT&T Community Forums! I hope you are ok down there in Louisiana considering the circumstances. You are in my thoughts today and I’m hoping things get back to normal soon for you guys.
You definitely need data to check emails and use Facebook. You can be connected either via Wi-Fi or the mobile network. Whenever you connect to a Wi-Fi hotspot, you will need to know the password. If you are connected through the mobile network, you normally see 4G or LTE near the top right corner of the screen.
You can perform basic troubleshooting steps by using our AT&T Troubleshoot & Resolve tool available online. Make sure that your device’s brand name and model is selected. Select “Internet” or “Wi-Fi” under “Select a Service - Related Issue”. This may help identify the issue and tell you how to resolve it.
